A Hairini man who was within 15 minutes of having his electronic security bracelet removed after serving six months of home detention was instead arrested after police executed a search warrant at his home.
On October 20, Mark Kimber, 45, had come to the end of his sentence for drugs-related charges.
But at 8.45am police executed a search warrant at Kimber's Onyx Way home and located two glass pipes for the consumption of methamphetamine which he admitted were for his own use, Tauranga District Court was told yesterday.
Also found was a shotgun in various pieces, which Kimber claimed he was restoring for his son for display purposes.
Kimber does not hold a current firearms licence but his son does.
A Dell laptop found at the address was stolen in a recent burglary, police checks found.
Kimber pleaded guilty in Tauranga District Court to one charge each of possession of utensils for consuming methamphetamine and breach of home detention.
He was jailed for one month.
But Kimber - who was recalled to prison on an interim basis because of the new charges and who will appear before the Parole Board for a hearing - continues to maintain his denials on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and receiving a stolen laptop.
Lawyer Craig Tuck told Judge Christopher Harding the situation Kimber was in was unique. At 9am on October 20, Chubb security was due to remove Kimber's security bracelet but at 8.45am police turned up.
Mr Tuck said while Kimber accepted imprisonment was warranted on the possession of P-pipes and breach of home detention, he planned to defend the other charges.
Mr Tuck said Kimber was shocked to find out the laptop he had bought was stolen.
