"That's what our goal is. The preparation is to make sure that all the athletes or lifeguards achieve their goals. If they do that then the club will walk away with the trophy for five years in a row."
Last year Mount Maunganui triumphed at Ohope Beach but Bryant says the travel and cost factors have to be factored in this week.
"I think the travel is the biggest thing and the affordability for the 70 people to get there and move four trailers with all the equipment.
"There is a lot of excitement with all the kids coming in from universities and Australia plus from here in the Bay so the team will lift. They are like a big family when they go and race and it makes it quite exceptional.
"We have a saying in the club that a fitter, faster, skilled lifeguard saves lives. We love racing and we love patrolling. The real winners are the people who come and swim here who may have a gold medalist saving them."
Last year Mount Maunganui finished ahead of Papamoa in second with Omanu sixth in a creditable overall performance from the Western Bay clubs.
Bryant said the consistency shown by clubs in the Western Bay is all about "the exceptional talent up here".
"I don't know what it is. Maybe there is something in the water but people here are very, very talented. They have excellent feel, are brought up around the water from an early age which I think has got a lot to do with it.
"Plus we have the surf here and the harbour so we can work our training round. The conditions here are as close as you get to Aussie. We have good surf, good weather and warm water most of the time."
The talent at Mount Maunganui's disposal includes some clubbies who performed well at the Queensland Surf Lifesaving Championships held on the Gold Coast last weekend.
Lincoln Waide won gold and silver in the under-19 ski events and Jess Miller won silver and bronze medals in open events. Olivier Eaton won the open women's sprint and beach relay titles, was second in the beach flags and won the under-19 beach relay while Adam Simpson won silver and bronze medals.
Bryant expected nothing less from his top class athletes competing against Australia's best.
"I believe that is where their training plan is heading and certainly they are realistic medallists at Aussie nationals to come. The states are usual pathways to the Aussie nationals.
"I am over the moon they have come back to compete (this week)."
