Motorists are advised to expect delays on State Highway 2 near Te Puna this Saturday while further tree felling and maintenance work is carried out.

The New Zealand Transport Agency said road users should expect delays between 7am and 5pm on August 18 while work is carried out between Omokoroa Rd and Esdaile Rd.

This work is a continuation of last month's tree felling which was delayed due to wet weather. The work is weather permitting.

The Transport Agency said the tree felling was a hazardous operation that required all traffic to be stopped while each tree is felled.

Stop/go traffic management will be in place, with a 30km/h temporary speed limit through the work site.

Northbound light vehicles will be required to use the fully signed detour route to minimise delays.

Motorists will be detoured left into Youngson Rd, right into Old Highway, right into Esdaile Rd to return to SH2.

Northbound heavy vehicles and all other southbound traffic will continue to use SH2 under stop/go traffic management.
