The NZ Division II swimming championships held over four days in Rotorua produced some outstanding results for Greerton Swim Club members.
Top points scorer was 13-year-old rising star Millie Quin, who won five gold medals and one bronze as payback for a consistent summer training block. She started her campaignwith a surprising win in the 200m backstroke swimming a massive 13 second personal best recording 2:26.38. This swim set the tone for her meet as she collected multiple medals and qualifying times to attend the NZ Age Group championships in April.
Aidan Heath, 15, also began the meet with a 200m backstroke medal touching the wall second in a time of 2:20.84. He followed up with a bronze medal in a NZ Age Group qualifying time of 4:28.47. Aidan also collected medals in the 200m freestyle, the 400m medley and the 1500m freestyle on the final day.
A club highlight was the bronze medal in the 4x100m freestyle relay. Coach Tai Daniela predicted that his team was capable of doing a four-minute relay and his confidence was justified with Thomas Friskney, Aidan Heath, Jacob Browne and Dylan Beilby combining for a 4:00.01.
Jacob Browne, 14, made finals in the 100m and 200m medleys both in personal best times. Kate Kuka, 15, was unlucky not to medal finishing in the dreaded fourth place in both sprint breaststroke events. Hannah Richardson just missed the podium swimming a PB 31.39 50m butterfly. Caitlin Farrell, 12, saved her best for last placing fourth in a 29.26 PB 50m freestyle.
