A man has been taken into custody in Welcome Bay after an incident involving an axe.

Police are still at the scene near James Cook Drive and Waitaha Rd where they received multiple reports of two men arguing.

A police spokeswoman said police arrived just before 12pm.

"A man was allegedly holding an axe," the spokeswoman said.
