Man dead after being struck by car in Pukehina

UPDATED 10.44am A 75-year-old farm worker was killed when a car crashed into him while he was moving cattle across Old Coach Rd in Pukehina.

Senior Sergeant Shannon Clifford said the man and his son had been moving cattle when a car came around the corner towards them and hit the man.

CPR was performed on the man but he died shortly after.

Early indications were the driver of the car was affected by sun strike, Mr Clifford said.

Police are speaking to the driver.

Mr Clifford said police would also like to speak to the female driver of a silver car that drove past shortly after the crash before emergency services arrived.

The road has now been re-opened.

9:06am: A man who was run over in a driveway in Pukehina has died.

Fire Service Northern Communications manager Scott Osmond confirmed the man was deceased.

He was unable to give more details of the crash as police were investigating.

Police said Old Coach Road was closed between Macdougall Quarry Rd and Ohinepanea Rd and would be for sometime. Serious crash investigators are making their way to the scene.

8.22am: A person has been struck by a car in a driveway in Pukehina this morning, police Inspector Kerry Watson says.

Police, fire fighters and ambulances are at the scene and a helicopter has been called for the patient, he said.

Old Coach Road is closed between Macdougall Quarry Rd and Ohinepanea Rd and will be for sometime. Serious crash investigators are making their way to the scene.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 8am.

8.06am: Emergency services are responding to reports of a crash on Old Coach Rd in Pukehina this morning.

A Fire Service northern communications spokesman said fire fighters from Pukehina and Maketu were responding to the crash.

Emergency services had not arrived at the scene yet so the details of the crash were not yet known.
