Man critically injured in Mount crash

UPDATE: Ocean Beach Rd is open after a serious crash about 4am this morning.

The driver of the car that collided with a parked car and a tree suffered serious injuries and was taken to Tauranga Hospital in a critical condition.

EARLIER: A man has suffered serious injuries after a crash in Mount Maunganui this morning, forcing the closure of one of the beachside suburb's busiest roads.

The man has been taken to Tauranga Hospital in a critical condition after the car he was driving collided with a parked vehicle on Ocean Beach Rd about 4am.

Ocean Beach Rd is now closed between Golf Rd and Concord Ave while a police Serious Crash Unit investigate the scene.

People are asked to use alternative routes to get to and from the Mount this morning.

The road will remain closed until further notice.
