A brawl involving 15 students erupted at Tauranga's Otumoetai College yesterday - with some suffering facial injuries and teachers forced to pull them apart.
At least 50 other students watched the lunchtime fight on the school field and it is understood pupils filmed it on cellphones.
Two male teachers ran in to
stop the attack and physically restrained two students. Neither teacher was injured but a few of the boys were understood to have received bruising and black eyes.
Police are aware of what happened and may yet be brought in to deal with offenders.
Principal Dave Randell today told the  Bay of Plenty Times the brawl involved Year 9 boys who had been "stirring" in an attempt to "sort out their pecking order".
"Our year nines come from other schools where they have been kingpins and they come to a place like this where they are nobody and they strut around," Mr Randell said.
