Lotto winner gobsmacked at $250,000 windfall

Two Tauranga residents are each $250,000 richer after winning Lotto First Division on Saturday.

Both Lotto players bought their tickets from Bethlehem Four Square and Lotto and the store has been described as the latest lucky Lotto store.

The two winners, a man and a woman, both wish to remain anonymous.

The man, who is semi-retired, said the win was exciting and it was still sinking in.

"I just popped in on the off-chance to buy a ticket," he said.

"When I went to check the results in the paper I couldn't believe it, I had to check it over and over.

"When you think about winning this kind of money in Lotto you think 'gosh' and start dreaming about what you'd do."

Other than investing his money, he already had plans.

"I'm looking forward to buying a larger boat and upgrading my car. We also have a family wedding coming up so this win is very timely."

The woman said she was very happy with the win and had not yet decided how to spend her windfall.

Meanwhile, a Waihi woman won $150,000 on Lotto's Winning Wheel draw on Saturday.

Sharon, a single mother of three, who works as an administrator for a horticulture company, received the ticket from from a friend for her 50th birthday, and she found out she had won on her actual birthday.

Her wishlist included a deposit for a house and an overseas holiday.
