"He is Tauranga Intermediate," she said.
"He has got children of students coming through now. He has been here for a couple of generations."
Diver helped to increase the school roll, established the Aims Games and much more while head of the intermediate school.
"He has made such a big impact on not only the school but the Tauranga community," Diamond said.
The principal's last day will be the end of Term 1 next year which Diamond said gave the school board plenty of time to fill the prestigious role.
"We are grateful to be given that much time to go through the process," she said. "It is one of the biggest jobs we have to do is appoint a principal, especially at Tauranga Intermediate which is one of the biggest intermediate schools."
