A Tauranga waitress and aspiring artist felt so helpless for victims of the Christchurch earthquake, she single-handedly pulled together an art exhibition for the cause.
Liana Kappelle came up with the idea after feeling the urge to help but was at first unsure how.
"I'm an aspiring artist and after the earthquake
happened I wanted to donate money or do something," Ms Kappelle said.
"I'm just a waitress so my spare income is pretty much non-existent, I thought maybe I could sell some of my art to make money."
Ms Kappelle said felt her artwork was not good enough to be able to raise money for Christchurch.
"Then I thought there were lots of really amazing artists in this town so that's how the idea came into being."
Ms Kappelle has gathered support from established artists such as Keith Abbott, Mandy Williams, Bryce Brown, Rex O'Brian and Nic Clegg.
"Every artist I approached has been ecstatic to help and has added names to my growing list of contacts, not only wanting to participate in the event but to help in any other way they could."
The art ranges from sculpture, paintings and photography.
"I work at The Med and we have a lot of artists on display, so that probably helped with the idea too," Ms Kappelle said.
"I can't wait, it will be a great night and the art will be on display for a week following the event for others to view the art."
The exhibition will be on display, with pieces available for sale, at the Laundromat Art Space on 2nd Ave on Thursday at 6pm.
