Fire fighters are battling a large scrub fire in Te Puke.

Northern communications fire spokesperson Daniel Nicholson said they had received a number of calls about a scrub fire located on Manoeka Rd, Te Puke at about 2.30pm.

The 30 by 40m toi toi fire was being extinguished by two fire trucks and a water tanker, he said.

Another fire truck was had been called in for assistance but had since been turned down.

There was no risk to neighbouring properties or indication on what had started the fire, he said.
