Eighty-eight Cafe in Mount Maunganui reported two busy days. Assistant manager Catrin Wootton said that yesterday and today, the cafe had been filled up with locals as well as visitors to the area.
Looking outside, she said the streets were filled with people and it had been like that most of the weekend.
Over in Tauranga, things were a bit slower on the Saturday and yesterday when the sun was shining, and busy today after the weather clouded over.
Robert Harris owner Nick Kirsopp said there had been a lot of foot traffic around the city during the long weekend, but in warm, sunny weather more people tended to visit the beach suburbs.
"We've been pretty busy [yesterday] and there are a lot of people in town," he said.
Mount Mainstreet manager Ingrid Fleming said there had been a number of events around the centre during the weekend which had helped contribute to a busy downtown.
The Wheels on Mainstreet event was a success and having it at Coronation Park meant no road closures were needed to accommodate the event.
Hoptober Fest at Mount bars The Hop House and Vaudeville Bar also helped bring people to the Mount.
"Generally speaking, it's been very busy down the street over the three days," Mrs Fleming said.
"I came through town [Sunday] night and the place was absolutely humming with people out on the pavement enjoying food and beverage and the atmosphere.
"It was a beautiful day and people certainly made the most of it."
Hospitality New Zealand regional manager Alan Sciascia said businesses he had spoken to in the Bay had reported another successful long weekend.
"There have been a lot of people in town out and about. In the Bay, we did very well.
"The good weather always helps."
