The jury in the trial of a man accused of shooting four police officers have retired to deliberate their verdict.

At the High Court in Hamilton, Justice Timothy Brewer has finished summing up the three week trial of Rhys Warren who is defending multiple charges of attempted murder and firing at police officers.

Justice Brewer told the jury on the more severe charges of attempted murder they must ask whether Warren deliberately shot at the officers and whether or not he meant to kill them.

If either of those questions are answered with no then Warren must be found not guilty.

Justice Brewer sent the jury away telling them they are the judges of this case and they must be clinical with their verdict, which he trusts them to be.
