Katikati played host to the Tauranga Kennel Association's national dog show and the Bay of Plenty Gundog Society's shows, with a good crowd both days at the picturesque Uretara Domain.
The town felt the influx of the two-day event and was buzzing with extra visitors at the Saturday Moggies Marketand bookings at local motels.
Show manager Michele Reichmuth, president of the Tauranga Kennel Association, says it was one positive weekend.
"We had just under 500 dogs each day and have had so much positive feedback from entrants - it has been super.
"The community has been great and the Friday Farmers' Market was a hit, with some of the stallholders doing well."
Michele said the judges (mostly international) absolutely loved Katikati - the venue and the people - and certainly have gone away with a fantastic impression of our town.
"We had the motel owners come down and view the show too and were very impressed and they hoped we would be back next year."
Other clubs were already wanting to come on board next year, Michele said.
