KIA ora U Fullas. My name is Wai Girl and I am 5 years old. My Dad was too tired to write his column today so I said I would help him and write about the festabull on Matakana Island what we went to. You should have come - it was way cool.
These peoples from Ngaitiirangi Iwi put the festabull on so us kids could have a cool time and guess what - we did.
There was heaps of mean music and cool kai and lots of stuff for us kids to do while Dad and them chilled out to the sounds. Dad liked old stuff sounds like Maisey Rika, Tait Kora Band, Herbs and a band called 1814 probably cos that's about when he was born.
But when Stan Walker came on me and my friend Mia was up on our Dads' shoulders and we could see heaps cos we was way up high. But no one else was way high cos it was drugs free. There were no beers or electric puha so us kids could play wherever we wanted. It was super safe as. That's dumb why they call dope electric puha cos when they smoke that stuff it makes them all porangi (stupid) so maybe they should call it porangi puha eh?
Anyways I think Stan Walker likes me not like a boyfriend or anyfing cos I am just a kid, and someone said he's married to Jesus, but when he looked at me he smiled, and at my friend Mia to so maybe he likes her to.
Heaps of peoples were happy as at the festabull and you wont believe this but there was heaps of kaumatua and kuia there, and other old people, and they wasn't even grumpy at us kids or telling us off like they always do cos they were happy to.
I even saw some of them having a kani kani (dance). And that Mr Mayor and His Mrs Mayor wife whose a judge - but I don't think she's locked up any of my cuzzies, well even they were smiling heaps and I reckon they will be on board with some pinga if they have anada festabull.
Yeah it was cool as watching Stan Walker way up on Dad's shoulders but I think that's why my dad got tired and couldn't write his colim cos he's nearly a kaumatua now you know but don't tell him I said that OK? And anyway there was heaps of cool kai at Matakana festival. We had fresh paua burgers and they was the meanest munch ever. And guess what when I was having a kai this Pirihimana Wahine (policewoman) gave me a lolly pop.
There was some cool cops there playing frisbee with us kids and chilling to the sounds. I think I would like to be a cool cop like my Aunty Tawhai when I grows up.
But sometimes when policemans go to dumb festivals with heaps of beers and electric puha and stuff they have a stink job cos everyone gets all agro and staunch and behaves like eggs.
Dumb how peoples think they have to be all wasted to have a good time eh?
But not at Matakana - no one was wasted and it was mean as. Oh yeah a couples of peoples were outside the festabull all wasted and thinking they was all staunch but they looked silly as.
Even at the end when it was time to come home on the barge and it was all raining and stuff, it didn't mater cos dad reckoned it was all the Matakana ancestors crying tears of joy cos their tamariki was all having a way cool time without no waipiro or rorirori hikareti (beers and electric puha)
Dad said Matakana means to stand guard over or to watch out for and he reckons that's what the peoples who put the festabull on were doing. They were watching over us kids.
How cool is that. I reckon all the sponsors backed a winner and so does Dad, so hopefully if I do my homework and all my chores and be a good girl all year I will be allowed to go to the next Matakana Island Breeze Festabull.
Gotta go and play now cos Dads having a moe (sleep) cos that's what old fullas do when they is tired.
See Ya
WaiGirl.
