Tauranga Judo Club enjoyed great success at the New Zealand Judo National Championships held at the ASB Arena recently. Competitors from all over New Zealand arrived with dreams of becoming national champions to round off their judo year in style but it was the Tauranga contingent who performed best.
ChanelKavanagh, last year's Commonwealth Games representative won her ninth national title while Ana Moceyawa successfully defended her national title from last year. Mitchell Ihaia won his first national championship, and Jade Tuilaepa, Josh Preston and Pip O'Leary came away with hard fought silver medals.
In the junior division, Holley Ramsden won her third national title and Suho Jung won his division. Special mention for long serving club coach and 5th Dan, Kevin Kavanagh, who is Tauranga Judo Club's highest ever Dan grade.
