Tonight marked the official opening of the Tauranga Jazz Festival.

A VIP event of mingling with guests, bubbles and ambiance lit by fairy lights took place outside Tauranga's Baycourt Theatre.

The city mayor Stuart Crosby and the director of the Jazz Festival Becks Chambers were among 16 lifetime festival members and VIP guests this evening.

The function was followed by the live show, Diva's with a Twist kicked off the weekend festivities on Baycourt's stage.
