A large quantity of bronopol was reported as stolen from a commercial business in Mount Maunganui.

A large amount of the harmful chemical bronopol has been stolen from a commercial premises in Mount Maunganui.

Police were alerted to the burglary on Portside Drive on Monday and believed the theft happened between 4.30pm on Friday and 7am on Monday.

The chemical was stored in containers, each weighing about 25kg.

The chemical was described as a white odourless powder, and it could be harmful if people came into contact with it.

 Police are investigating a report of a large quantity of the chemical bronopol being stolen from a commercial business in Mount Maunganui.
Police are investigating a report of a large quantity of the chemical bronopol being stolen from a commercial business in Mount Maunganui.

Police said it was important that if anyone came across the containers or a chemical that matched the description, they should not touch the chemical or approach the container it was stored in.

Instead, call the police via 105 and reference the file number 260511/9430.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of these containers was urged to contact the police.
