Police have released the name of the 8-year-old girl who was killed in a three-car crash on the Kaimai Ranges last night.

Jasnoor Kaur was the passenger in a Subaru and died following the collision on State Highway 29.

Jasnoor was described as a "popular, bright and happy girl" by the Katikati Primary School Board of Trustees chair this afternoon.

They said the school community was "deeply saddened" by the passing of one of their students.

"[She] will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered, by all who knew her.

"Other members of her family, including her younger brother who is a student at our school, were also injured in the accident and we pray for their recovery also.

"We are all thinking of and praying for her family and friends and offer our support and love to them."

Four Katikati people are in Waikato Hospital today following the crash.

A 5-year-old boy is in a critical condition and two women, aged 20 and 34, are also in Waikato Hospital in serious but stable conditions.

A 12-year-old boy was in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital earlier and has now been flown to Middlemore Hospital in Auckland.

Two people were also taken to Tauranga Hospital - a 55-year-old Mt Maunganui man, who was in a serious but stable condition, and a 79-year-old Tauranga woman, who was stable and comfortable.

Police attended the crash about 4.30pm yesterday.
