Hotshots tennis for kids at Gate Pa

Gate Pa Tennis Club is again running its successful tennis programme for young children aged 5 and over.

Kids love the "learn by play" method of teaching and parents appreciate a professionally presented programme that caters for little ones through to budding pros.

With over 20 years experience working with beginner players to national champions there is a place for all children within the Gate Pa tennis programme.

Blow explains the Red stage is for beginners (5-7 years).

"The red ball is larger than a yellow ball and doesn't bounce as high (just 25 per cent compression), making it easy for even the youngest players to hit it comfortably," he said.

"The courts and nets used in the Red stage are much smaller, making it easier for novice young players to move around and enjoy success.

"After mastering the Red stage, children move on to the Orange stage (8-10 years) where the ball bounces a little higher (50 per cent compression) and the court is a slightly larger.

"The ball used in the Green stage (9+ years) has a higher compression than the Red and Orange stages (75 per cent of a yellow tennis ball) and children play on a full-size court."

The Gate Pa Tennis Club welcomes young players who may wish to try the Hotshots programme as an introduction to tennis.
