Watch out Donaldson's Dairy, Tauranga Library is set to become a favoured Hairy Maclary hang out.
This week, Legacy Funerals founder Greg Brownless delivered news to set many a tail wagging. Legacy Funerals has donated nearly $10,000 to create a space in the children's library dedicated to Hairy Maclary andhis pals.
Dog-themed bean bags, plastic kennels to crawl into, and Hairy Maclary decals will help transform a part of the children's section of the library, which is presently not in use.
Funding was applied for by Friends of the Libraries. The group recognised there would be a nice connection between the soon-to-be-opened Hairy Maclary sculpture display on the Tauranga waterfront and a dedicated library space.
Children will be encouraged to travel from one to the other.
Greg believes using a new space in the children's section of the library as a Hairy Maclary reading area will encourage children's reading development.
The characters who will feature in the display are favourites with children, so having them in the library will give children a reason to visit.
"Learning needs to be fun to keep and enthuse our attention," Greg says.
"I hope that children in Tauranga will be enthused and inspired to learn, as well as having fun in the new Hairy Maclary part of our library.
"I'm fortunate enough to be considered a good reader, writer and speaker, and I put that down to having a great interest in reading and words in my early life, combined with a great imagination."

Endeavours such as this epitomise the intent of Legacy Funerals, Greg says.
"With the sponsorship of the charitable trust I founded, Legacy Funerals gifts all its profits back to worthy community groups and institutions such as the library," he says.
"I'm pleased to have established the Legacy Trust, which has gifted more than $1.5 million since its inception in 2007, and I sincerely thank all those families who have chosen Legacy Funerals in their time of need. Their choice really has made a difference to our community."
