Papamoa College students go together like rama lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong. Or at least that's what they'll tell you while they tread the boards next month.
The school, which has won the national Stage Challenge title twice, is putting on its first stage production -- Grease.
Performingarts director Deb Wood says they chose Grease because it's a timeless musical.
"Everybody knows the songs, every age group can relate to it."
She says the production has been a very time-intensive undertaking, with the cast of 30 rehearsing every lunchtime and all day Sunday for eight weeks, as well as five full days of rehearsals in the second week of the holidays.
But she says their first foray into a full show hasn't exactly been greased lightning.
"It's trying, I'm not going to lie! But the students have been amazing, really," she says.

Deb says the best part has been collaborating with the students and other staff, while English teacher Andrew Tilby says he's enjoyed watching the progress.
"Watching some of the kids come out of their shells has been good," he says.
Deb says audience members are encouraged to dress in the 1950s theme, with Polaroid cameras up for grabs for the best dressed each night.
- Grease is on from August 5 to 8, at Papamoa College theatre, 151 Doncaster Drive, Papamoa. Tickets are from $10-16, available from Papamoa Plaza information centre, eventfinder.co.nz or the school office.
