PEC Zwolle and Te Puke's Ryan Thomas continued their strong start to the season with all three points away to newly promoted FC Dordrecht at the weekend.

After last week's victory over Utrecht, which followed a fine win over Ajax in the Dutch Super Cup, Zwolle were sitting with maximum points from their first league game.

Thomas, who started the game in his usual left-sided attacking role, capped a good first-half performance by scoring the opener in the 40th minute. Receiving the ball on the left side of the penalty area, Thomas stepped inside his man before calmly stroking a measured finish into the far corner of the net. The goal was well deserved, with PEC having had the best of the first half.

Following the start of the second half, Thomas' game took a painful turn when he fell awkwardly on his ankle. Despite initially shrugging off the knock and making a couple of good contributions, he was substituted in the 55th minute.

Winning their first three competitive fixtures will boost PEC's confidence for Thursday night's tricky Europa league qualifier versus Sparta Prague, which will be the Dutch club's debut in European competition.
