A Katikati man who fondled a female cafe worker under the pretence that he was helping her has been fined $650 and ordered to pay $500 to his victim for emotional harm.

Michael Callagher, 42, pleaded guilty in Tauranga District Court yesterday to charges of indecent assault and resisting arrest.

In May 2011, at an Auckland cafe, Callagher placed his hand around the victim's hip, sliding his hand down and applying pressure before letting her go and staring at her.

Callagher has mental health issues and is subject to a compulsory treatment order.
