The New Zealand Transport Agency is offering to waive the fee for a replacement driver's licence for victims of an online phishing scam.
A widespread email, claiming to be from the NZTA services team, was recently sent to customers. Recipients were asked to enter their licence details on a fake version of the NZTA website.
The agency said people who entered their personal details on the hoax website should contact it on 0800 822 422 to have their licences cancelled.
The agency is offering to waive the normal fee of $38.20 for a replacement licence for those caught out.
Phishing scams attempt to gain personal details from recipients and may result in identity theft.
"If you receive one of these messages you should delete it immediately," NZTA spokesman Andy Knackstedt said.
NZTA had also uncovered a new version of the email after warnings were issued to customers about the original hoax. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Internal Affairs have added it to their scam warnings.
