Driver crawled out back of ute after crash

The driver of a vehicle is in hospital after crashing into a ditch last night.

The crash happened on Maketu Rd about 7pm.

An ambulance spokesman said the person was trapped and was taken to Tauranga Hospital with serious injuries.

Maketu fire chief Shane Beech said the driver, a man in his 30s, managed to crawl out the back window and to the side of the road.
