Cricket: On-fire MacRury stars for Greerton

Nearby Fraser Street was under siege when rising Bay of Plenty star Tom MacRury smashed 171 for Eves Realty Greerton against Bay of Plenty Indians at Pemberton Park on Saturday.

The home side batted first and MacRury, who opened the innings with Charles Williams, was quickly into stride in an innings that included 11 sixes.

Greerton were well on their way to a big total when Williams was removed for 63. Kent Hodder continued his side's frenetic pace and posted an unbeaten 66, when the home side declared at 329/3.

It took the Greerton bowlers until the 52nd over to remove their opponents for 168.

Another big century came at Blake Park where Bay of Plenty wicket keeper Tim Clarke belted 138 for Carrus Mount Maunganui against Whakatane United, as the Mount declared at 338/6. Mount Maunganui quick bowler Tony Goodin added an undefeated half century, with Matt Golding chipping in with 37.

The Eastern Bay of Plenty visitors were bowled out for 156. Mount captain and part-time bowler Pete Drysdale did the damage taking a remarkable four wickets for seven runs.

Another young star, Te Puke's Brody Gilroy, grabbed 5-38 as Rotorua Central were bowled out for just 118 by City Sports Bar Te Puke at the Te Puke Domain.

Element IMF Cadets took the points at the Tauranga Domain. Tauranga Boys' College were dismissed for 118, with Donovan Deeble grabbing a five-wicket bag. The home side were cruising before Tauranga Boys' bowlers grabbed three further wickets, with Cadets taking out a five-wicket win.

Carrus Mount Maunganui 338/6 declared (Tim Clarke 138, Tony Goodin 52no, Matt Golding 37; Brendan Sayliss 2/49) defeated Whakatane United 156 (Alex Yates 62, Joe Barratt 25; Pete Drysdale 4/7)
