Greerton claimed their first points on day two of the NZCT National Cricket Club Championships 2015 at Cornwall Park, Auckland, yesterday.

Playing on the tiny boundaries of Cornwall 3, Greerton made up for the disappointment of losing to hosts Cornwall on day one with an old-fashioned thumping of Wellington club champions Onslow.

Greerton's two Bay of Plenty pacemen, Brett Hampton and Campbell Thomas, gained the early advantage with two quick wickets each in their opening six over spells to have Onslow struggling at 23-4. Day one's top wicket taker Dan Spencer claimed the wicket of the dangerous Sam Keegan (20) with his first ball, to have the Wellingtonians in real strife at 50/5 off 16 overs.

Captain Shane Wineti chimed in with the wicket of Corey Larsen to make it 52/6, then Wineti dismissed two more Onslow batsmen for ducks in his next over as Onslow slumped to 70-8 after 19 overs.

Spencer had no trouble cleaning up the tail to finish with three wickets as Onslow were dismissed for just 75 in 21.2 overs.

Greerton openers Charles Williams and Tom MacRury had no fears against the Onslow bowlers, with MacRury going on the attack early in his innings. The Bay of Plenty rep batsman hit two crashing sixes and three fours as Greerton got off to a flier, to be 35/0 after five overs. In the eighth over, MacRury played one dashing stroke too many and was dismissed for a hard hit 32 off 24 balls, with Greerton cruising at 46/1.

"Potsy" Williams then decided to up the ante, spanking two sixes and four boundaries as Greerton were clearly after an early finish before lunch. The comprehensive 9-wicket victory was duly achieved, with Williams 34 not out.

Greerton face Central Districts champions Napier Old Boys-Marist from 10am today in what is expected to be a much more even clash. Live scoring: www.blackcaps.co.nz.

-The NZCT National Club Championships are run by Cornwall Cricket Club, with the champions of each major association competing in a one day cricket round robin format, ending with a 1st v 2nd, 3rd v 4th and 5th v 6th finals match-up.
