Amy Campbell gets crafty with clay

Ever wanted to get into pottery but don't have access to a kiln or all the equipment? Using a wonderful paper clay called Joviclay, you can mimic clay pottery at home.

Projects are limited only by your imagination, but we decided on a simple bowl. It dries overnight and is ready to paint when dry.

Faux Ceramic Bowl
You will need: Joviclay (250g)
Paint
Masking tape
Rolling pin (we used a glass)
Toothbrush
Small bowl
Water

We found all these supplies at Spotlight

What to do:
Split your block of clay in two, reserving one half for the base and the other for the sides.

Using your rolling pin, flatten one piece to 1cm thick and as wide as your bowl (face down).

Trace a circle shape, remove excess clay and set aside.

Roll a long snake with the other piece and flatten with rolling pin.

Check to make sure it is long and wide enough by wrapping around the base.

Join the edges and base together by pinching and using a fork to mesh the ends. Smooth over with a little water.

Once dry to the touch, mask the bottom half with tape. Flick your choice of paint on the top half using a toothbrush. Remove tape.

TIP: Keep a separate bowl of water handy to dab onto the clay for fixing cracks and blemishes.
