Tauranga City councillor Matt Cowley has shared some ideas for pulling more people to Tauranga's city centre.
Mr Cowley shared the following map on his facebook page, asking for feedback from the public before raising it with the elected members:

His proposal included converting The Strand into a pedestrian andservice-vehicle-area only, changing Devonport Rd into a low-speed, shared space for people and vehicles and creating an easier, "more vibrant" pedestrian access between Grey St and Devonport Rd.
"Some ideas I want to float with you before asking the elected members," he said.
"One, let's make the CBD more people friendly (purple and green); Two, let's make it easier to get through the CBD (red); Three, let's make it easier to find a park - in covered buildings (yellow/orange); and four, let's do it affordably!"
