The crude sight of a coffin on the back of a ute shocked shop customers in Tauranga's main street when a rowdy and abusive gang funeral procession rolled through Devonport Rd yesterday.
One Devonport Rd storeowner described the sight of a coffin and the gang members, believed to be from the
Mongrel Mob, travelling through the city centre as "strange".
"I saw a ute with half a dozen patched gang members with a coffin, and they were doing a lot of yahooing, with another car of the same people behind them," he said.
Another shopkeeper said the procession was "a little bit creepy".
"We just heard a whole of revving and a lot of yelling. It was creepy and to be honest the customers were a little disturbed. It was unusual."
