A young motorist was lucky to escape with no injuries after his car flipped and collided into a bank just outside Tauranga, yesterday.

Kurt Rice was travelling to Tauranga Domain from Rotorua when his vehicle lost control and rolled at least once before colliding into a bank.

Emergency services responded to the incident on Pyes Pa Rd about 1.20pm.

Only one car was involved and Mr Rice was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

I've been told I'm lucky to escape with no injuries.

"It happened so fast, all I can remember is flipping once but apparently it could have happened again. It was quite an unreal thing to have happened."

Senior Constable Geoff Hutchins agreed Mr Rice was lucky to escape the crash with no injuries.
