Bay of Plenty Polytechnic and Waikato University are moving ahead with plans to develop a joint campus in downtown Tauranga, attracting hundreds of students.
University vice-chancellor Professor Roy Crawford said his council has approved further investigation into a CBD-based presence in Tauranga through the partnership with the polytechnic.
He said the project
would be dependent on Tertiary Education Commission funding based on domestic student growth, third party investment, and regional support.
The partnership plans to develop campuses that are research and education-focused, with high value degree offerings in priority areas such as law, business, computing, environmental sciences and Maori economic development, Professor Crawford said.
The new campus would likely be developed around the Bongard Centre in Durham St but other possible sites could include Sulphur Point.
