Busy weekend for rescue helicopters in Bay of Plenty

The BayTrust Rescue Helicopter had back-to-back calls on Saturday.

It was first sent to Ruatahuna at 9.30am to a 58-year old woman who was suffering chest pains.

She was flown to Rotorua Hospital for treatment.

It was then dispatched to the Te Urewera National Park by the Rescue Co-ordination Centre.

A 57-year-old man had fallen from his motorbike and had multiple broken bones.

The people he was with had a personal locator beacon and the rescue helicopter was able to fly directly to the man.

He was flown to Whakatane Hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old was airlifted from a trail ride event in the Eastern Bay of Plenty after breaking his leg in a fall on Saturday afternoon.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was sent to Taneatua just after 2pm when the young man, who was helping to set up the event, fell off his bike riding down a steep hill and went over the handlebars in the process.

He was stabilised by paramedics before being flown to Tauranga Hospital for treatment.
