Homes have been evacuated and a bomb squad is travelling to Tauranga to remove a grenade discovered under an Avenues house this afternoon.
At about 2pm police were called to a property on Harvey Street.
A builder completing renovations at the house found what is believed to be a WWII
fragmentation hand grenade under the house.
Police were called inspected the grenade and contacted the bomb squad based in Auckland. Photographs were sent to the bomb squad of the grenade.
After the bomb squad saw the photographs they decided to travel to Tauranga to uplift it and are expected about 6pm.
