Boaties can increase their knowledge of crossing local river bars including Kaituna, Maketu and Pukehina, at Maketu Coastguard's fourth Bar Crossing Training next month.
The Bar Crossing Training Event on December 3 will also include safe boating techniques with the guidance of the Maketu Coastguard crew.
Maketu Coastguard president ShaneBeech said Bar Crossing Training was one of their most popular events for boaties.
"If you are at all unsure about crossing the bar, this is the event you need to come to," he said.
"It is a great chance to be able to go out on one of the Maketu Coastguard boats and experience the thrill of crossing the bar on a jet boat."
Beech said the training session was a great opportunity for local boaties to gain experience in what was often one of the most dangerous aspects of boating in this area, crossing river bars successfully.
"It is also great for us as crew to get to meet our local boaties and members."
Participants will cover training modules including boat safety, a bar crossing visit, videos showing information on bar crossing techniques and a chance to cross the bar with Maketu Coastguard crew in either of the boats Gibby Rescue or Eastpack Rescue.
The training session will be free to current Maketu Coastguard members, however a cost for non-members applies.
