Two Bay Blokart Club sailors earned podium places at the Auckland Blokart Championships, held at Ardmore Airport last weekend.

After 31 races in each division, Ross Ludwig of Greerton took second place in the heavyweight division. Bay Blokart Club's president, Te Puke's Graham Ingall, won both the lightweight division and the Top 6 Shootout, in which the best three place-getters in each division battle in an extended race for the Auckland champion's title.

Seventeen races were held on Saturday in cold, wet, and variable wind conditions, with Ludwig and Ingall each winning about a third of their races and in the top bunch for the remainder. Overnight points were close, with three sailors in each division poised to take the titles.

Ludwig started the day strongly with some convincing wins before his main rival, Mark Hursthouse of Auckland, picked up the pace. Ingall sailed consistently throughout the day and headed off leader Barry Cole of Auckland to take the lightweight title.

Bay Blokart Club sails at Blokart Recreation Park, Parton Rd, Papamoa and has a club day this Sunday. If you own a blokart and want to join the club for informal racing, check them out, from 1pm on Sunday.
