Greerton Marist removed any lingering doubts about their top eight aspirations with an emphatic 56-20 victory over rivals Paroa at Greerton Park on Saturday.

Going into the key match-up Paroa held eighth place with Greerton in ninth on points differential. The win does not guarantee Greerton a top eight place yet but sure goes a long way to securing it five points clear of Paroa who slip to ninth.

It took just 10 minutes for the inspirational Masirewa brothers to combine down the left flank to set up Phil Tuigamala for the opening try.

Atu Masirewa crossed for two tries and brother Luke for another in a dazzling show of attacking flair that the usually staunch Paroa defence had no answer to.

Greerton took a 27-13 lead into the break which could well have been more but for some iffy goalkicking.

No matter though as from the start of the second half Greerton Park resembled Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, Fiji, as Greerton ran in try after try with plenty of clever sevens-type running from deep with No 8 Savelio Ropati crossing for two of the best.

Trailing 56-13 Paroa did salvage some pride with the final try of the match but it was too little, too late.

Greerton fielded three Japanese players who have added so much to the club's playing depth this season.

Tighthead prop Taeyook Chang and flanker Yuta Onodera were standouts in a strong Greerton pack and halfback Yuya Ohashi cleared the ball impressively in his last game before returning home to Japan this week.

Greerton coach Brendon Brill knows he has one of the most exciting backlines in the competition.

"We are so lucky. I think most forward packs can compete with each other but if you have some backs who can do what they can do (Masirewa brothers) then they are the guys the defence is watching. Young Cody (McGovern) scored a try because they drifted off him and he is probably our top try scorer.

"They are adding a difference to Greerton Marist. Anyone would be lucky to have them. They are so fit, strong and fast and just go for 80 minutes. They are enjoying it. It is a new pathway for them coming over from the Waikato and they want to make the Bay squad obviously but they know they have to do the hard work first in the club stuff."
