Baywide Cup cricket: Greerton back in form

Carrus Mount Maunganui kept their position at the top of the Baywide Cup standings after defeating Cooney Lees Morgan Tauranga Boys' College at Blake Park three on Saturday.

Tauranga Boys' batted first, in what was a home game for the students while Nicholson Field is being upgraded, and set Mount Maunganui a good target, reaching 192/9.

Keeper Tim Clarke was in solid form with the bat posting his side's top score of 67, with Sean Wakelin chipping in with a handy 30 runs. Nick Smith was the best of the Mount bowling attack returning 3/20, while Peter Drysdale and skipper Dale Swan took two wickets each.

Bay of Plenty batsmen Drysdale and Ben Musgrave played a big part in Mount Maunganui's seven-wicket win, both posting 64 runs. Mount wicketkeeper Matt Golding also got into the action with a handy 32.

Mount Maunganui's latest win gives them an eight-point lead after the opening three rounds of the 106-over competition.

Element IMF Cadets cruised to victory in Rotorua defeating Bayleys Central Indians by seven wickets at Rotorua Cricket headquarters at Smallbone Park.

Gurwinder Singh, in his first season with the Tauranga Domain-based side, took charge with the ball grabbing a five-wicket bag. Morton Freer also bowled with genuine enthusiasm and was rewarded with 4-11. Central Indians batsman Ajay Kumar was patience personified as he top scored with 59, as the hosts were bowled out for 108.

Freer backed up his four wickets, leading Cadets to an easy win with an unbeaten 58.

Cadets who lurk in second place will be focused on winning the Baywide Cup which has an automatic ND Club Champs berth for the 2016 titleholder.

Defending Baywide Cup titleholder Eves Realty Greerton stormed back into this season's competition with an emphatic win over New World Te Puke at Pemberton Park.

Sitting at the bottom of the standings after two rounds, the Greerton bowlers went to work to bowl the visitors out for 129. Former Tauranga Boys' College player Jared Tutty did plenty of damage with the ball taking 5-24. Te Puke all-rounder Alex Gooding was a rock at one end, top scoring with a hard fought 63.

The Greerton batsmen went on attack from the start of the reply, with nearby Fraser St under siege on several occasions, as they strolled to victory for the loss of just three wickets. Cam Neal led the way smacking 38 runs in quick-fire fashion, while Brett Hampton, Tom MacRury and Shane Wineti also made solid contributions in their side's seven-wicket victory.
