A new expo for mums and bubs is kicking off in Tauranga this weekend.

The Tauranga Parents and Kids Expo, held at the TECT Arena at Baypark, will feature about 100 exhibits and displays, giving a raft of information from pregnancy to primary, toddlers to transportation and more.

At the expo, held on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm, guests will learn about education options, health and well-being (for parent and baby) and financial advice for new families and more.

Inside the expo there will be seminars hosted by writer and 'baby whisperer' Dorothy Waide, early childhood transition tips from Carol Stovold, how to avoid getting nasty bugs by the team at Western Bay Primary Health Organisation, making sure you've got a strong back from Naturally Chiropractic and child safety sessions from Baby on the Move.

Expo guests will have a chance to win a share of $5,000 worth of prizes, including $500 worth of household products from Eco Store, Oh Baby magazine subscriptions, Penguin books, toys, $1,300 worth of Red Cross first aid kits, a Balance bike, a children's playhouse worth over $1,500 from the Spruce Up Company, a baby package from NZ Baby Supplies, gym memberships and more.

Organiser Dana Martin from Bay Events said the Tauranga Parents and Kids Expo had been in the plan for a while and with the arrival of the TECT Arena at Baypark, the time was right to bring a new expo to the Bay.

"There's been a bit of a baby boom over the last year,'' she said.

"With a 27 per cent increase in babies over the previous year, Tauranga is definitely making babies.''
