The Banksy impostor who has been spraying artworks in Tauranga CBD has struck again, this time in an unusual spot - on a rock along the base track of Mauao.

The artwork, the size of an A4 piece of paper, was about 3m above the track.

It was small and required a good eye to notice for walkers going around the Mount.

Banksy-style stencil images popped up in Tauranga city centre last week, sparking speculation the anonymous artist was in town - until the artist's publicist confirmed Banksy had not been in New Zealand recently.

However, the revelation seemed not to have stopped the copycat artist who left another image of what was believed to be a possum with a sign saying "Was here on holiday".
