Tomorrow's Garden, by Omokoroa artist Emma Prill, won the People's Choice Award in the 2014 Miles Art Awards.

Tomorrow's Garden, by Omokoroa artist Emma Prill, won the People's Choice Award in the 2014 Miles Art Awards.

Omokoroa artist Emma Prill claimed the People's Choice Award in Tauranga Art Gallery's Miles Art Awards, on display until this Sunday.

Her work, Tomorrow's Garden, was one of 30 on display at the gallery since August 15.

The award came with a $200 Art Supplies voucher.

An announcement from the art gallery said voting was close for the award, with Barry Dabb's Crotons - Victoria's Garden, Rarotonga in second place, and a tie for third between Natasha Cousens' Doe Ray Me and Colin Mossong's Fiordland Triptych.

There were more than 800 votes cast in total. Gallery Director Penelope Jackson said the people's choice award provided a great opportunity for friendly debate and discussion.

"It created lots of engagement for our visitors. It has been lovely to see families getting involved. And we've heard people talking about which is their favourite and why. It's been a nice opportunity for people to put a judge's hat on."

Ms Prill said the people's choice win was "really exciting and thrilling".

"To think that people are responding to my work in a positive way, it's a great privilege."
