Tauranga motorists will gain about 35 temporary car parks in the CBD from today.

Tauranga City Council will provide the new parks as an extension to the existing temporary car park on Dive Crescent.

Three car parks will be provided for larger vehicles.

The council's acting general manager of infrastructure Martin Parkes said the car parks would provide additional spaces during a busy construction period in the CBD.

"That's great news for city businesses," he said. "These car parks will also cater to people commuting to the CBD for work."
