Getting a meal delivered in Tauranga is becoming easier for local diners as the number of delivery services is on the rise.

International provider Uber Eats will be available in Tauranga this week, adding to the list of companies who offer a restaurant-to-door option in the city.

Uber Eats is an online app where diners made an order from the list of restaurants and an Uber Eats delivery partner would pick up and deliver the meal. The order can be tracked on a real-time map until it reaches the customer.

Emma Foley, Uber Eats NZ Country Manager, said the service would be available in Tauranga from May 16.

She said Tauranga locals and visitors had embraced Uber's ride-hailing app since it launched in February.

"Since then we've had lots of customers asking when Uber Eats is arriving. Tauranga has a thriving food scene and we can't wait to partner with amazing restaurants and help showcase local cuisine."

Foley said the service was about connecting customers with the food they love, giving delivery partners an opportunity to have more earning opportunities and enabling local restaurants to connect with more customers to grow their business.

"At launch Uber Eats expects to go live with over 20 of Tauranga's favourite restaurants, partnering with both popular New Zealand brands and some great local favourites," she said.

Foley said there had been "a lot of interest" from local Tauranga residents who were interested in becoming delivery partners.

"We are confident there will be plenty of delivery partners signed up ready to deliver food reliably to your door. Delivery partners can sign up and deliver orders with either their car, bike, motorbike or scooter."

Nationwide food delivery service Delivereasy had seen "immense success" within Tauranga since it launched in March this year.

Blair Kippenberger, one of three company directors, said there were more than 20 restaurants already signed up to the service and five more options were expected to be added in the next few weeks.

"There is a growing market in Tauranga and people want the convenience of having great food delivered," he said.
