What sorts of houses should be built in Tauranga's proposed new suburbs in Te Tumu and Tauriko West?
Representatives of housing groups from all over New Zealand will put their heads together tomorrow afternoon and try to come up with answers to that question.
Tauranga City Council is hosting a workshop bringing together officials from local councils, developers, landowners, SmartGrowth forums, tangata whenua, housing providers, central Government groups and the Property Council.
Among them will be representatives of the Ministry of Business and Employment, who will talk about how Labour's Kiwibuild programme might apply in new growth areas.
The discussion will inform the council's thinking on the sorts of development rules it could make in each area - such as height, density or open space requirements - to ensure the areas meet Tauranga's needs around smaller, accessible, more affordable property.
