The man accused of bashing a Bay of Plenty storekeeper and prompting a North Island manhunt which shut down State Highway 1 has been arrested.
The 27-year-old Te Puke man was found at a Rotorua property about 11pm.
Police allege the man drove off in a stolen vehicle from a Tokoroa petrol station about 9am yesterday, sparking the manhunt.
They revealed they were looking for Te Morehu Enoka and warned the public not to approach him.
As the hunt for the man progressed, police closed roads and told locals in the Whakamaru and Atiamuri areas to stay inside and lock their doors.
The Armed Offender Squad, dog units and Eagle helicopter were all involved in the search.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said the man wanted in relation to 23 offences, including the aggravated robbery of the Paengaroa Liquor Store. The storekeeper was bashed to such an extent, he required surgery.
Mr Turner said other offences included using a gun against a police officer, arson, burglary, theft and driving charges.
The man is expected to appear in the District Court of Rotorua today.
