When there have been so many incidences in the past of accidents involving children and adults, and trauma and injury to animals, I am flabbergasted that people still get caught up in this false excitement of fireworks, and Guy Fawkes.
Apart from the dangers of fireworks sometimes in the wrong hands, the noise factor is really deafening, and I can't see noise control in Tauranga being able to field all the calls about excessive noise today.
I wish people would be more responsible and considerate, not only on this day, but every day. Besides the fact that it's a complete waste of money, what's it all about anyway?
I am sure that most young adults and children marvelling at sparklers, being thrilled by rockets flying into the sky and exploding stars, or big bangs deafening everyone, don't have any idea of what November 5, or Guy Fawkes night, is all about.
What a ridiculous way to burn your hard-earned money.
Guy Fawkes goes back to 1605 and a failed attempt by English Catholics to assassinate King James I, and blow up the Houses of Parliament.
All these years later people worldwide and especially in England, still "celebrate" the demise of Guy Fawkes, who was tortured to death after the failed attempt to cause chaos.''
