Labour leader David Cunliffe has promised to bring more financial equality to New Zealand, in a speech delivered to Chamber of Commerce members in Tauranga today.

Mr Cunliffe was speaking at Mills Reef winery and restaurant this afternoon after visiting Zespri this morning and tasting red kiwifruit - "Labour-fruit".

Mr Cunliffe said New Zealand needed to be a country that was more than just well managed.

Labour would offer policies that would offer all kiwis opportunities for financial equality, he said.

Mr Cunliffe also said that under a Labour-led Government, New Zealand's debt would be paid off by the end of a second term.
