Motorists are being warned that State Highway 2, from Bethlehem to Waihi Rd will be reduced to one lane in both directions for a week.
The Transport Agency's regional Highways Manager Brett Gliddon said extensive resurfacing works would be undertaken to the east bound lane (heading towards the city) from the Bethlehem/Moffat Road roundabout towards the Waihi Road over bridge.
"We have minimised disruption as much as possible by shortening the length it would normally take to do this work, however we do expect there to be delays.''
Mr Gliddon says a 50km/h speed restriction will be in place and traffic will be monitored particularly during the afternoon peak.
The road will be reduced to one lane each way on Sunday and the work will start about 7am each day and end at 6pm. The works involve stripping the existing surface and laying down a new surface.
